KROKOP, 8 January – Leaders of Sarawak United Peoples Party (SUPP) here will be holding individual open houses instead of one major one this year, to give the celebration a more personal touch.

Miri MP Dato’ Sri Peter Chin Fah Kui said, unlike previous years, there will be no SUPP Open House at Indoor Stadium this Chinese New Year.

“We normally have one big open house at Miri Stadium on the first day of Chinese New Year but we want to have something different this year.

“This year we will hold open houses at our individual residence so that we can get closer to the people,” he said adding that it is easier for them to mingle with the public when they hold the open house at their private residence.

Chin said this when met during a special visit with other leaders of SUPP to Home For The Aged at Krokop here with this morning.

The visit led by Chin was also joint in by his wife Datin Ruby Chin, SUPP Piasau chairman Dato’ Sebastian Ting, SUPP Pujut chairman Andy Chia and SUPP Lambir chairman, Lee Chin Sing.

During the visit, the leaders presented the old folks with Chinese New Year goodies including Mandarin oranges and angpaus.

They were also treated to a sumptuous lunch cooked and prepared by the Women Section of SUPP Pujut.

“This is just our activity for the Chinese New Year. It is our way to bring cheers and happiness to the folks here,” he said adding that SUPP always organise outreach activities to get closer to the people.

The old folks home which housed a total of 27 senior citizens and four staffs, is currently being upgraded and the upgrading work is expected to be completed by May this year.

This morning’s activity was held at the centre’s new multipurpose hall which was completed in time for the Chinese New Year.
