PERMYJAYA,  20 July – The new traffic light system which replaced the Pujut 7 roundabout started its operation at 9am this morning.

Assistant Minister of Communications Datuk Lee Kim Shin who was present to commission the operation of the traffic light said he was delighted that the facility had started functioning ahead of schedule.

“Once the traffic light timers are adjusted, the traffic flow will be smoother. I hope motorists can bear the traffic jam with us for a while until we can sort out the right time for each junction,” he told reporters.

Following the operation of the new traffic light, traffic policemen were station at the junctions to guide vehicles and help motorists to get used to the new route as the area was once a roundabout.

“This traffic light system completed the first phase of the road upgrading work for Permyjaya and Pujut.

“This phase included the new Pujut 7 bridge which was opened to traffics earlier this month,” he said.

He added that the second phase is the 11.2 kilometres dual carriage way from Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara (IKBN) all the way to ASEAN Bridge which is in progress.

“Once the whole project is completed, traffic jam in Permyjaya will be greatly reduced,” he said adding that the second phase will include a traffic light system at E-Mart junction in Tudan.
