YB Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui
I was born on 31st August, 1945 in Kuching, Sarawak. I had my early education in Kuching and thereafter proceeded to read law at Gray’s Inn, London and graduated as a Barrister-at-law in 1971.
I returned to Sarawak and joined the law firm, M/s Wan Ullok, Jugah & Chin and started my law practice in Miri, Sarawak in 1972. I retired as a partner of the law firm upon my appointment as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Federal Ministry of Welfare in 1986.
I became active in social services through various voluntary bodies and clan associations in Miri. From this social service platform, I joined and became an active member of the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Miri Branch, as early as 1978 thus starting my political career.
In 1986, I participated in the General Elections as a Barisan National/SUPP candidate and was elected as the Member of Parliament for Miri. Following that election, I was appointed as Parliamentary Secretary to the Federal Ministry of Welfare. In subsequent elections i.e. 1990, 1995, 2000, 2004 and 2008, I successfully defended my Parliamentary seat on behalf of the Barisan National/ SUPP thus having the distinction of being the longest serving Member of Parliament for Miri.
Since my first election to the Malaysian Parliament in 1986, I had been holding various posts in the Government such as Parliamentary Secretary (1986 – 1990), Deputy Minister (1990 – 2004) and Minister (2004 till now).
Over the years I had been holding various posts in the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) either at Headquarters level as well as at the Miri SUPP Branch level. I am married to Datin Ruby Wee Hui Kiang and we have 3 children. My hobbies are reading and golf.
